Dia De Los Muertos…. It sounds scary but it’s not.

It is actually a beautiful ceremony and one of my favorite times of the year. In Austin we do not get many “seasons” so during this time of the year it cools off, you can have your windows open and “Fall” might actually become a reality 😃.

Dia De Los Muertos is actually a time when we can celebrate all those who have gone before us, those (if you are inclined to believe) are all together somewhere. They automatically know each other because they have loved us, they are in harmony with each other. It’s a time to remember each and every one of our loved ones and our furry friends as well. It is not a time of sadness, but to remember each memory and take joy in that. It is a blending of religion, ceremony, customs and faith.

This year it is exceptionally special to me as we said goodbye to Linda, my dear mother in law. She was such a joy, same quick cynical wit that Kev has and one (of many) reasons that I love him. We each grieve and mourn in our own way, setting up an Ofrenda/Altar for her, my dad, my Tio Beto who was the family clown and our beloved furry babies allows me to cry and think of memories and time spent with them. The marigolds add to the hint of fall with such vibrant colors of orange, yellow, red and Fire. Of course there is fire, those of you who know me, know there is always fire 🔥. The fire/candles help to light the way for them, making a safe passage so that they may return next year.

It is a beautiful time for me. I get to remember, cry, clean and wear skeletons which I adore!! I look forward to this time and this year I am especially excited to create the Ofrenda for Linda. I think she would have loved it. She always loved pumpkins and fall decorations. Who do you celebrate this year?

Love and Light to you all,
JennyO
